Google Analytics Individual Qualification

The Google Analytics (GA) team announced today the launch of a new online course and exam for GA proficiency.

Being a brave little adventurer I thought I’d have a crack at the exam today and see how challenging it is.

For those who use Google Analytics every day, and are au fait with e-commerce tracking, advanced segmenting and filters etc. the exam won’t pose too much of a difficulty (though you might want to double-check your answers to the RegEx questions – some of them are tricksy)

The exam gives you 90 minutes to answer 70 questions, and given that the timer can be paused – it wouldn’t be too difficult to treat it like an “open book” test. The pass mark is 75%.

If you’re new to GA, the online course is pretty comprehensive and fairly easy to use – it works as a good primer for new hires or interested clients too.

All in all, not the hardest IT exam I’ve taken (that award goes to Cisco), being less of a challenge than the Google Adwords exam (which I had to renew a few months ago).

I hope this brief review has been helpful, if you’ve got questions about my experience on the exam, feel free to ask via the comments. I won’t give out example questions because 1) I disagree with brain dumps and 2) my memory is shocking and I don’t remember any specifics.

  1. Unfortunately I never remember questions after an exam, but if you skim through the preparation courses it should give you a good idea of whether you’re ready to sit the exam or not.

As I mentioned in the post, if you’re an advanced GA user already, the exam won’t pose much of a problem.

Hope this helps and thanks for visiting!
