Intel & Microsoft Announce Parallel Computing Research Centres

Microsoft and Intel are to back two Universal Parallel Computing Research Centres” at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of California at Berkeley.

“Parallel computing brings together advanced software and processors that have multiple cores or engines, which when combined can handle multiple instructions and tasks simultaneously.”

The two companies will provide $20 million (approx. £10 million) in combined funds to the two facilities, which were selected from over 25 institutions researching in the field.
